Now based in Fife, Scotland, Carina Norris was born and brought up in rural Hampshire. She began a career in the media after studying for a degree in biology at Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, University of London. Later she gained an MSc with distinction in Public Health Nutrition at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, where she is now working towards her PhD. After a spell as press officer on New Scientist, during which her articles and book reviews were published in the magazine as well as other national newspapers and magazines, Carina decided to branch out as a freelance science and health writer. She has also edited magazines for children as well as pet titles, and was the author of Scamp's Diary, the official British Small Animals Veterinary Association's guide to puppy and kitten care.
Over the following years she established herself as a journalist and consultant and edited a range of national magazines published in the UK. She was launch editor on a number of national magazines both in Britain and Australia, and has also been published in America.
More recently, Carina has concentrated her work in the field of human nutrition. Her MSc dissertation was on the nutritional impact of the food choices of children who buy their own lunches outside school - research which produced some alarming findings. She is now continuing her research on children's nutrition with a PhD on Scottish children's nutritional intakes. When ‘her' subjects are in the news, Carina is called on to give interviews on national television and radio.
Carina also works as a consultant to the media, food companies and other organisations, providing nutritional analysis and comment, as well as dossiers and features. With a team of dedicated designers and illustrators she produces educational booklets and leaflets targeted to a variety of readerships from the technically minded to the general public.
Carina was the Nutritionist for the Channel 4 TV series Turn Back Your Body Clock (aired Spring 06) and wrote the book to accompany the series. She is now writing her ninth book on nutrition and healthy living, and helping to put together an online course on healthy living. With a passion for healthy living, Carina specialises in making scientific and complex concepts exciting, easily understandable - and practical for everyone.
